Makeup For Women Over 40

Let's talk about makeup. Have you been wearing the same makeup since your teens and twenties? Does it not look the same now as it did back then? Back when your skin was plump, even toned and...um, wrinkle free?

As we age, fine line and wrinkles become more noticeable and the texture of our skin changes as our hormones change; Dipping collagen levels and make it seem like our face is literally falling down. The very reason why heavy, cake like foundation and shimmer everything need to go now. Anything which settles into those fine line and wrinkles, ages you. Replace them with cream textures and watch your sallow, crepey skin, transform to a dewey, glow filled complexion.

Now, I'm not saying you can't have full coverage if you need it and I am absolutely a fan of the glow, but there is a way to do it in this season of life. Dewey primers and concealer are your friend and if you dab, rather than swipe, you will achieve that coverage you need with less product, resulting in a more natural look. The idea in midlife is to embrace the, "less is more" line of thinking. This one took me awhile, as a self proclaimed maximalist, give me more, more, more! A second skin is what you want your ultimate goal to be.

You can still use your favorite techniques, but the pivot is the new way these days; I love a little less on the eyes and a little more on the cheeks and lips. The eyelids droop, the lids become crepey and too much eye makeup just frankly doesn't look great now. But I love a pop of color, always and with everything, and I love it especially on the face; Bright, bright, bright! It's cheerful and makes you look awake and alive, which is always a good thing, especially as we are blessed with the privilege of aging.
