The Outfit Formula

The outfit formula. Do you have one? 2? 3? Have I totally lost you because you don’t even know what I’m taking about? Perhaps, but perhaps you may already have one or several and you don’t even know it! So, what is an outfit formula?

An outfit formula is a trusty go to you know you can count on to make you feel great every time you get dressed. It’s great to keep a mental bank of formulas so you can refer to them every time you feel uninspired when getting dressed. Here are my top 3 tips when creating an outfit formula you can personalize to suit your own personal style:

1. Go through your closet and determine your go to pieces. These are pieces you reach for often because you either love their comfort or you love how they fit.

2. Decide what silhouette you want to create. A silhouette in fashion is a line of dress, meaning, a shape you create with your clothes. An example of this is an A- line; I trust you know what an A-line is.

3. Pick specific pieces to style within your silhouette. Then get creative with accessories!

Repeat! Once you have the basics down, it’s easy! Really pay attention to your most reached for pieces and your accessories. Which ones make you feel great? Wear more of those. You may find that a scarf really makes you feel pulled together, so it may be a piece you add to almost every look and it becomes a staple part of your formula. You may find that a wrap dress creates a really flattering silhouette on your body type, so invest in a few good ones and add trends with accessories to make it look current with each season.
